Dr. John Tidwell is the founding physician of Mintview. He is known for providing quality time and an atmosphere of care and concern for his patients, along with a high level of expertise based on knowledge and experience.  His special interests include high-risk obstetrics and establishing "well woman care" programs for women's total health needs. Over the past several years, Dr. Tidwell has worked extensively in the evaluation and treatment of abnormal lipids, a major source of cardiovascular disease.

A native of southern Illinois and a sixth generation physician, Dr. Tidwell attended the University of Michigan on a basketball scholarship. "My goal was to be a pro basketball player, not a doctor," he says. But in spite of an outstanding athletic career which included induction into his alma mater's Athletic Hall of Fame, he chose medicine. "This is what I was meant to do; it just took me a while to realize it."

In addition to his work at Mintview, Dr. Tidwell is very involved in the OB/GYN teaching program at Carolinas Medical Center. He and his wife, Nancy, are avid sports fans. Their family includes five dogs - four Maltese and one Doberman Pinscher.
