John Tidwell, M.D.,
F.A.C.O.G. Dr. John Tidwell is the founding physician of Mintview. He is known for providing quality time and an atmosphere of care and concern for his patients, along with a high level of expertise based on knowledge and experience. His special interests include high-risk obstetrics and establishing "well woman care" programs for women's total health needs. Over the past several years, Dr. Tidwell has worked extensively in the evaluation and treatment of abnormal lipids, a major source of cardiovascular disease. A native of southern Illinois and a sixth generation physician, Dr. Tidwell attended the University of Michigan on a basketball scholarship. "My goal was to be a pro basketball player, not a doctor," he says. But in spite of an outstanding athletic career which included induction into his alma mater's Athletic Hall of Fame, he chose medicine. "This is what I was meant to do; it just took me a while to realize it." In addition to his work at Mintview, Dr. Tidwell is very involved in the OB/GYN teaching program at Carolinas Medical Center. He and his wife, Nancy, are avid sports fans. Their family includes five dogs - four Maltese and one Doberman Pinscher. Email: tidwell@mintview.com

Away from work, Dr. Porter enjoys traveling, music, reading, and gardening. He is an active member of Sardis Presbyterian Church and an avid supporter of Habitat for Humanity. William E. Verross, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. About being a physician, Dr. Verross says, "I became an OB/GYN specialist because I find delivering babies exciting and because OB/GYN provides a medical and surgical balance. What I value most about my profession is the opportunity to make a positive impact on my patient's health through education, listening, and medical intervention." Dr. Verross has two grown sons living in Charlotte. His hobbies include snow skiing, gardening, running, and "a fairly unsuccessful attempt to learn the game of golf." Email: verross@mintview.com

Alyse Kelly-Jones, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. "I found during my training that the women who seemed happiest were those who came to me with their own questions and concerns; who actively sought out ways to work with me," she says. "I make sure my patients take responsibility for their own health, which helps me provide the best medical care available." She also thinks that having three children with her husband, Richard, has helped her prepare for a career as an OB/GYN specialist. "Having my own three sons has helped me to better relate to my patients," she says. "It's definitely made me a better doctor." Her other professional interests
include women's sexual dysfunction, including low libido and painful sex,
as well as adolescent medicine. When she is not working, Dr. Kelly-Jones
enjoys bicycling races, running triathlons, making scrapbooks, and watching
Florida Gator football. Email: kelly-jones@mintview.com
